SLAB was established in 2004 by Jeffrey Johnson, RA, AIA and Jill Leckner, RA, LEED AP. The studio is committed to advancing design through research and experimen­tation. With each project, new objectives are formulated yielding new potentialities, both conceptually and formally. SLAB is dedicated to material and technological advancement in each project and promoting responsible design as a necessary response to issues of sustainability. Projects range in scale and type from residential to urban. Since its founding over ten years ago, SLAB has had projects located in the Americas, Europe and China. 

SLAB and its two principals have an extensive international background in architecture and urban design. Both principals have international experience while project leaders for inter­nationally renowned firms OMA and Asymptote Architecture. Jill Leckner was lead architect for Asymptote on the Equine Park Turf Club Master Plan redevelopment in Penang, Malay­sia in 2004 and the Guggenheim Guadalajara Museum of Contemporary Art in Guadalajara, Mexico in 2005. Jeffrey Johnson was lead architect for OMA/Rem Koolhaas on the IIT McCormick Tribune Campus Center, in Chicago.

SLAB is an award-winning firm that has been exhibited and published widely internationally. Most recently, SLAB received a 2014 AIA / New York City award. 

SLAB’s work has been published in a number of publications including, Domus, FRAME Magazine, Art Forum, LA Architect and Crain’s Business Magazine.
